We hope
this will help you follow along or participate during our meeting today.
The
Toastmaster - acts as the “M=
aster
of Ceremonies” and meeting planner/host for the entire program. Skills include agenda planning and
preparation, conducting a meeting, introducing speakers, providing a smooth
transition between speeches.
Ah/Er/Uhm Counter - he=
lps us
become aware of those verbal crutches or fillers that pepper or distract fr=
om
our speaking. Skills include
listening and reporting.
The
Grammarian - provides a Word of the Day,=
which
helps us increase our vocabulary.
In addition to listening and reporting those who used the Word of the
Day, the Grammarian also identifies the use of poor English.
Speakers - work out of basic and advanced manuals to deliver prep=
ared
assignments. Speech objective=
s and
skills differ among the manuals.
The primary purpose is to help members become confident communicator=
s.
Table
Topics Master - prepares a series
Table
Topics Speakers - give a
1-2 minute impromptu response which include a beginning, body, and
closing. Primary skills learn=
ed and
developed are thinking and effectively speaking off the cuff. Great for inte=
rviews,
salespeople.
Evaluators
- help speakers improve their
skills. In an oral
presentation based upon a written evaluation, Evaluators point out some of =
the
speaker’s strengths and weaknesses in meeting the speech’s
objectives. Evaluators offer
suggestions for improvement. =
Skills
include listening, delivering positive, supportive feedback. Invaluable for
management.
Timer =
- The timekeeper records the time used by speakers and
evaluators. Most Basic Manual speeches are 5-7 minutes; Advanced Manual
speeches can be 8-10, 20-30 minutes depending upon the project. Speech evaluations are 2-3 and Tab=
le
Topic responses are 1-2 minutes.
The
General Evaluator - provides an overall
evaluation of the meeting, business meeting, and presentations made by memb=
ers.
Club
President - (with other officers) conducts a short business
meeting. =

Management and Leadership Skills.

Charting
Your Progress - Within 7-10 days after your application and dues are
submitted to Toastmasters International, you will receive via UPS your New
Member Kit which includes a membership certificate and the Communication and
Leadership Manual. This manual
contains information and a guide to completing ten speeches. These speeches emphasize the diffe=
rent
skills you want to develop. A=
fter
you make a speech, give your manual to the Vice-President of Education to
initial. This confirms your
progress. Once you complete t=
he 10th
speech, you are considered a Competent Toastmaster (CTM). A certificate and two free Advanced
Manuals will be sent to you from Toastmasters International.
Educational
Materials - Professionally developed manuals. Toastmasters International
offers low-cost variety of books, tapes, videos, scripted speech kits, trai=
ning
manuals and modules. See the =

Each member receives The
Toastmaster monthly magazine.
Possibilities
- The speaking and leading possibilities within Toastmasters are
endless. A club’s membe=

cover the entire spectrum from beginner to advanced. Each has their own goals and

Evaluations - help you learn about your speaking and encourage your
progress. Evaluators look for=
ways
to help you improve. We ask y=

take, and give, evaluations in that spirit.
